This month, Baladi Bounce welcomes Coco de Mol to serenade our ears and gyrate our hips. A DJ, a Libra, and a diva — I bow at his sonic altar. I can only describe Coco as infectious; to deny dancing for him is impossible. You are compelled to live, laugh, and love in his presence. As Coco himself puts it:

"When I go to the club, I wanna hear a lyric, I wanna hear bass, I wanna feel sexy, and I wanna feel silly too — because the gag is that nightlife is never that serious… And this mix is exactly that, as it pulls from influences, I rely on and relate to heavily: gay music, Black music, Arabic music, and more.

This inspired me to run my monthly party, ‘Gay Rights,’ in the heart of Toronto’s Gay Village, where I aim to (respectfully) combat the crippling looped Top 40 gay pop music and the retro Céline Dion extended house mix you can hear across the strip. Don’t get me wrong, there’s a time and place for both, but I can smell the yearning off of the bodies itching to dance affordably and locally.

Also, FYI: "Banana" and "Baddie" are basically the same word in Arabic.”

The doctrine of ‘موز، مزز و بزاز / Bananas, baddies, and boobs’ is to embody and celebrate absurdity — to acknowledge how minuscule and ridiculous we all are. Let that awareness deepen your ferality and lust for existence.
