Excited to present our new party: Salsabīl

Salsabīl (Arabic: سلسبيل‎) is an Islamic/Arabic term referring to a spring in paradise. It can also mean river or fountain in paradise. Our name choice isn’t necessarily religious, it is more of a reference to Egyptian kitsch and its general relationship to certain religious themes and terminology (even when devoid of religious context).

The party is organized by Mohamed and I (Solofan) in Brooklyn/Queens NYC. One day, we bonded over our love for Fatima Al Qadiri in Nowadays' backyard, and the rest is history. Despite it being organized by two people who grew up in Egypt, Salsabīl سلسبيل presents sounds which are far from a regular ethnocentric party, as it covers an abundant range of sounds including IDM, techno, trance, electro, ambient, disco, industrial, minimal synth and more. Both of our sounds weave through the above-mentioned genres, yet are very much influenced by our upbringing. We are looking to create a party around sounds that reflect the expanse and range of artists living in contemporary Egypt and Brooklyn, as well as our own experiences, without being boxed into sonic categories created by music journalists.

This is my opening set for the first iteration of Salsabīl. Recorded live on June 20th 2023, at Mansions (Queens, NYC).
